Following the 6.2% decline in US imports in 2001, imports rose marginally by 1.9% in 2002. However, imports from Africa (especially sub-Saharan) declined by 12.9% in 2002 following the 8% decline in 2001 despite increased access for qualifying African country exports to the US under AGOA.
