In his budget speech, the Minister of Finance repeated the commitment of the Government of Malawi to Poverty Reduction.

MEJN believes that this year's budget had the potential of being one that really could impact on poverty, and that the key building blocks are in place. However,as this report shows a number of critical obstacles remain before this budget could have an positive impact on the poor. Only if the government moves to rectify these can this budget be described as one that will help to reduce poverty in Malawi.
