The Centre for Conflict Resolution (CCR), Cape Town, the Centre for Policy Studies (CPS), Johannesburg, and the Southern African Poverty Network (SARPN), Tshwane, hosted a policy meeting on “HIV/AIDS and Human Security: An Agenda for Southern Africa” - Pretoria, Thursday 1 December 2005.

This meeting was held to commemorate World AIDS Day and its call to “keep the promise”: to support efforts for the fulfillment of the commitments made by world leaders in the 2001 Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS. CCR, CPS, and SARPN have been working closely to enhance Southern Africa’s peace and security mechanisms, such as the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Following a successful meeting organised by SARPN on Human Security, Poverty and Conflict in SADC in Mauritius in August 2005, the three organisations are seeking, in collaboration with policymakers, scholars, civil society and members of the general public, to assess the threat of HIV/AIDS while simultaneously examining and strengthening human security approaches for building peace in Southern Africa and beyond.

In that respect, two new CCR reports were launched:
