Improved Access to Energy is necessary for development Access Affirmative Action, Black Empowerment Affordable access to modern energy
Affordability of Modern Energy Use Accessibility of electricity is low in countries
Initial cost of Solar Energy System
Energy management and its effects on poverty To educate the rural masses on economic energy for sustainable management

ENERGY Focus on alternative sustainable energy sources The use of Solar Power in sparsely populated areas Sustainability of a project for Rural Electrification Social Marketing of Renewables:
  • methodologies
  • co-op between Govt, NGOs and private sector
Practice of producing graphic and audio-visual materials is not enough to support initiatives
ENERGY to GENDER Inclusion/ coverage of energy and gender issues & concepts in primary and high school curriculum To introduce Renewable Energy Study at primary, secondary and tertiary institutions Reason why Renewables are marginalised We need to have Renewable Energy as a department in government so it will have a budget Different energy systems
Specify how much is spent on biomass Benefit of Energy to Gender Roles Gender specific awareness campaign of Solar System Financing mechanisms for alternatives

GENERAL CROSS-CUTTING ISSUES
The Role of Information Dissemination and awareness creation - not used efficiently Issue of community participation and consultation when planning and implementing projects/programmes not enough Sectoral Participants
Training Needs
Integrated Approach on Policy issues Co-ordination
Gender: Efforts of women to overcome cultural bonds & contribute to economic developmentPoverty: Representation of untitled wealthEnergy: Rural Electrification campaigns seen in almost all countries Information Dissemination, Education and Awareness Gender: the role of ministries of women and children through energy provisionPoverty: the impact of climate change to rural people at times when they are planning to emancipate themselves from povertyEnergy: the link on how energy availability can directly change the living standards in the rural areas. Education and Information Dissemination a) HIV/Aids - demographic of countries e.g. increased orphans who will be/are deprived access to socio-economic amenities b) Impact of HIV/ Aids on women's workload - now have to provide with (additional) care to family 1) as a result of need: explore innovations that are child-friendly 2) Need to revisit local tech. capacity-building - how sustainable it is vs. mortality rates e.g. train 1 person: they are bed-ridden within a short period
The impact of HIV/ Aids can pull down all this if it is not attended to. Integrated Planning Networking
Renewable Energy
Legislation HIV/Aids Linkage
Available Resources Learning from successes and failures Identify the causes of community projects being unsuccessful All issues discussed on all 3 are important to the development of our countries Integrated planning
