Certainly the first acknowledgement should be extended to the Human Sciences Research Council’s (HSRC) Southern African Regional Poverty Network (SARPN) and specifically Mr Scott Drimie and his support staff. SARPN brought attention to the link between Poverty and Energy and generously funded the seminar. In the beginning there was SARPN.

Great appreciation is also expressed to the ENERGIA International Network, Germany, who not only added the Gender component, but who constructively contributed both towards and during the seminar. To Elizabeth and Tieho: Thank you, ladies!

I thank Mr Jesaya Nyamu, Minister of Mines and Energy, Ms Marlene Mungunda, Deputy Minister of Women Affairs and Child Welfare, and Mr Richard Kamwi, Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services. Your presence demonstrated a united front and serves as an example to us all when tackling big issues.

Sincerest gratitude is extended to all the members of the Directorate of Energy! In spite of your workload you always have time for me and your dedication is an inspiration.

I thank the presenters. In a world where there is all too much ignorant talk, it is indeed a gift to come across individuals that actually know their “stuff”, that deliver more than is expected and that share their thoughts and experiences with the unconstraint of visionaries.

To all participants: the seminar was organized for you, to discuss issues that affect you, to offer you a platform from which to exchange ideas, to gather ideas and knowledge for your work at home. You seized the opportunity well!

I thank EMCON Consulting Group for the work behind the scenes, their constant encouragement and vote of confidence.

Last but by no means least I thank Ms Tawny Botha and Ms Angi van Wyk. You were pillars of strength, you shouldered the load, you were versatile and you improvised well under pressure. I look forward to working with you again!

Sincerely.

Thank you.
